100 pages in and it felt like hardly anything had happened. Really slow but in the story’s defense, I’m not a suspense reader, so I think the parts that should have made me feel tense just made me feel like something was missing.

What a thrilling and suspenseful book. Each character has so much depth and it feels like anyone could play any role in the missing women’s disappearances.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an egalley of Looking for Smoke! This was a very well written mystery. I usually have some idea of what happened but I honestly had no clue what happened or who did it. My interest was held the whole time as the story unfolded.
I am aware of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women but did not know the full extent of the stats and while Looking for Smoke is a work of fiction the issue itself is very real.
I definitely recommend reading Looking for Smoke.

Was really looking forward to reading this book but wasn't quite as riveting as I thought it would be. I was hoping to expand my knowledge of indigenous culture and learn more of the issues that surround murderer and missing indigenous women especially. Plus I always love a good mystery/thriller element. As someone with no prior knowledge or experience in this world, I thought the book did a good job touching on the challenges faced by Native communities, and made them feel genuine and important. Though I wished I felt more fully immersed in the world and culture. Maybe the multiple points of view took away from really connecting to one particular character but I understand why the author chose to use this tool. It did help to see the different perspectives overall.
The middle also felt a bit slow and repetitive.
I was however guessing the whole way through though and wanted to know who it was. The very end did also surprise me but felt a bit anticlimactic.
