I don't know which is worse, this or the film. Probably this. Absolutely romanticized "version" of what happened to the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem, don't waste your time on this, watch some interviews or good documentaries.

Interesting account of the early 90s Norwegian Black Metal scene and the crimes and events of the era. It gave way too many pages to Kristian Vikernes... I get that he was probably really easy to access since he was in prison for the writing of this book. But there's just way too much of his point of view in here. This book is guilty of the same sensationalism that it criticizes of the press of the time. Satanic panic fuel. Also so much coverage of neo Nazi stuff it makes you wonder if the writers were sympathizers...
There are some good interviews and outside perspectives. But don't take this as your only source on the subject.

This book was very tedious. It’s twice as long as it needs to be and the writing stinks. The topic is fascinating and chunks of the book are great but I can’t help but feel it could’ve been a good longform article in Rolling Stone rather than a 400 page book.
