The interviews were interesting, lots of white power going on in the scene. A decent read for a book about a specific scene at a specific time but nothing ground breaking.
dark
informative
reflective
medium-paced
One of the few books I've read multiple times. A fascinating look into a fascinating music scene - early 90s black metal. The scene has changed a lot since then and it's interesting to read the inside story of what was spoken about in whispers in American media as "the black circle" or whatever nonsense it was. Certainly there are some biased viewpoints and untrustworthy sources within, but this was a great story nonetheless.
an ex bought me this for valentine's day a few years ago, which is a bit weird isn't it?
anyway this started off relatively interesting, gave a little more background and details on the euronymous / varg stuff than i'd already known and there's some cool norse myth stuff spotted about in it but man, this is the most irresponsible garbage i've read maybe ever and i actually struggled to get through the second half
the author is clearly just such a FAN of varg and this world and he keeps thanking varg the actual neo nazi homophobic racist murderer and points to his (thankfully now defunct) right wing heathenism website for "further reading". so many comments from various interviewees that are absolutely disgusting go completely unchecked or argued against at all and he's way too sympathetic to them all. he takes the piss about the media referring to them as "fascists" (yes fascists is in quotes) and then on the next page casually relays their opinions that literally praise actual hitler and say things like eradicate the muslims so you know what, fuck these dudes and their shitty music and fuck this guy for thinking they're cool
