I really did not like the two arms of the investigation : business and art heist. Too much, too far fetched.

A fun and formulaic junk food book. And like potato chips, I can't resist.

I still love this series - never get tired of them!

Another great addition to the In Death series. I love how the characters continue to develop over time.

i like all the j.d. Eve Dallas books. Like that Dallas is a self-aware bitch, struggling with the "noise" that is life, a relationship, friendships, being a girl, making chit-chat, dressing up..
This one fell a little bit flat - there was the traditional (in every book) conflict with Roarke but is mostly seemed silly.

They're popcorn books, without a  Deep Meaning but a largely entertaining cast and characters ticking all the boxes of the murder mystery/cop drama genre. Various books in the series have problematic language (possibly due to time of writing), such as comparing nonwhite character skin colors to food and slurs used such as
referring to characters as trannies and `mental defectives`
among others. I admire the author's ability to hit the beats and develop characters and show a fairly healthy relationship between the protagonist and her husband, but there's always something that makes me feel a bit uncomfortable when I read through. Potato chip books they are, but not without their flaws.

The series is still going strong. This one wasn't one of my favorites. I definitely love Peabody's and McNabb's relationship and I keep waiting for them to get engaged. Looks like Nadine found someone to fall in love with.
