I was excited to dive back into the wizarding world with this installment, because I feel like this is the first big action Harry Potter movie, and it is where the story really takes a dark turn. This book picks up with the gang entering their fourth year at Hogwarts. When they arrive at school, they discover that this year Hogwarts gets to host the Tri-Wizard tournament: a school year long event in which one student from each competing school is selected to compete in a series of magical challenges. Through some malevolent force, Harry's name gets entered into the Goblet of Fire, despite being too young to compete, and Harry once again finds himself trying to prove himself and protect those he loves from he who will not be named.
I loved this book way more than I anticipated. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for the next scene, even though I knew what was coming! This book is filled with action, but it also starts to show how the Hogwarts gang is growing up. I loved seeing Harry struggle with his first crush, and I really enjoyed seeing everyone's excitement and apprehension about the Yule Ball. Harry might be trying to save the wizarding world from an evil force, but he is still just a kid. This book definitely felt so much darker than the rest of the series, because it highlights the unforgivable curses.
We have heard about wizards that have been murdered by Voldemort and his following, but this is the first time we actually see it happen. I was devastated by Cedric's death and heartbroken for the things I know are coming.

I did really enjoy the premise of the Tri-Wizard tournament. I think it was a fun break from the normal school year and allowed us readers to explore the magical system in a new and competitive way.
I cannot wait to continue the series!

Audiobook - 20 hours 57 minutes - I enjoyed listening to this, a good nostalgic read, but hard to rate and review given my familiarity with the book for several years. It's a bit long, but the plot is engaging enough, and begins the start of the darker side of the Harry Potter series.

Definitely not my favorite in the series, but it's a page turner for sure! The story strays from regular Hogwarts life, which I enjoyed because it offered something different to the series, introducing us to new characters and developing the turning point of the series in a way that signified the end of Harry's childlike innocence and the beginning of being involved in the massive fight against a very real enemy.

I really feel like this fourth book is one of the main turning points of the series: it starts out lighthearted as we know the Harry Potter books but by the end the story has taken a much darker turn, which really sets the tone for the rest of the series.
