Hmmm, going against the herd..... I liked the book, I did not see what all the hype was about. I really disliked the excerpts of the story until it became more personal, so that was off putting. Good plot and characters, but it was missing something for me

great idea/premise. I love the idea of portals and other worlds.... sadly, that wasnt really explored to its full potential.

The characters were... awful, honestly. The protag was so SO stupid sometimes it was excruciating. Imagine finding out you have superpowers and figuring out the powers and limitations and then going into the final boss battle without a single weapon or prep. Just, incredibly unrealistic.

The parents were given so much potential and again, acted bizarrely. The whole book is about getting their kid back and the minute they do, they're like "ok cool, see ya! have a good life!" what???

The most fascinating characters - the love interest and the 'bodyguard?' lady were completely underdeveloped. So interesting and they got nothing.

Overall, I wouldnt recommend.

A portal fantasy to address all portal fantasies set in the early 1900' and spanning multiple worlds, multiple stories to come back to January and her story of losing and finding that dabbles in horror, romance, historical fiction and a big angry dog that you'll love so much. Harrow's novel weaves in and out of so many things, finally bringing to the reader a tale of hope and possibility.
I can usually resist an opportunity to bring up 2004 Natasha Bedingfield, but as "Unwritten" is the unofficial earworm of this piece, here we are.
