5 sparkling stars to this wonderful book!!! My heart feels so elated having experienced the joy of reading this book. The book follows the journey of January as she grows up in a world trying to fit in only to find out she was born to stand out. It is a story of love, friendship, family and adventure. Mostly it's about doors. Lots and lots of doors and what they stand for. Change. How convenient would it be to just escape the world which we lived and escape to find another to our liking. Alas we are not as fortunate as January I guess. The writing is so beautifully poetic it does the job of transporting the reader to January's world. This book reminded me a lot of The Starless Sea as it had similar themes but this book does it so much better and The Starless Sea is one of my favorites, so it's clear how much I loved this one. The book inside a book was executed perfectly. All in all an absolute delight.

This just didn't hit for me. It was fine. But the characters I wanted to know about were the ones we got very little backstory on. The ending is nice but it didn't make me as emotional as I was expecting. This just wasn't really for me I guess.
