I cried and shuddered, because I could completely relate to what she went through. I pictured her life, the environment she lived in, and everything she went through. All I can say is, everyone who can get their hands on a copy should read this book, because there are places in the world where people cannot read freely.
It's such a shame that the American right wing was able to take advantage of her rather easily. I can't blame her because it would be extremely hard to maintain a balanced mind after going through all of this, being broken and then 'saved' on a foreign land. But she's right that cancel culture is pushing the west towards a path similar to North Korea's.
It might sound irrational and unfair, but sometimes I can't help but hold a grudge against the west for having failed so many survivors of prisons unknown and unimaginable to their own citizens.
No matter what political activities she engages in or what stance she takes, I wish her the best of luck.

I thought this story was incredibly moving and eye-opening. At the end I was so curious and desperate to know more I googled the author Yeonmi Park. At this point it was a 4 star read. What I found out drastically changed my opinion of the author and her story and don't want to rate it. I'm also quite angry. Lesson learnt - research a book before readinf. If you are thinking about reading this book, I would strongly recommend that you find out about the author first before deciding if this is a book for you.
