Truly stunning memoir in many ways. I have read other memoirs from people who have escaped from North Korea and this one took my breath away. I had no idea that women who escape from North Korea are often raped and human trafficked, and Yeonmei bravely shared her story.

I also learned so much about how North Korea brainwashes its citizens and undereducates them. Yeonmi’s even says when she read Animal Farm, it felt like her home country.

Heartbreaking and awe inspiring. Difficult to read but I’m so glad I did.

I loved this book! I knew a little about the oppression in North Korea, but this really opened my eyes to the human rights violations. I loved Yeonmi's courage in telling her story! I recommend this for 14 and up due to the adult nature of the story.

Wow! What an incredible story! Every American adult should read this book.

She is amazing!!! I saw her talk (one young world) before I read the book and then watched it again after. wow!
