It was such a brave and beautiful book about Yeonmi Park and her experiences on the north korean government and how the managed to escape that place. It shows her journey from north korea to china up to south Korea where she, her sister and her mother finally got together again since being separated. Truly something to be inspired to, Yeonmi Park is such an inspiration to many people including me! I hope many people can read this book. This book is even the first ever i guess memoir that I read and it didnt disappoint. I consider it as one of the best books that ive ever read.

"I learned something else that day; we all have our own deserts. They may not be the same as my desert, but we all have to cross them to find a purpose in life and be free. "
I truly hope that more people pick up this book. A lot to process.

Discovered she’s a Trump supporter now.

So much of this amazing memoir tally with the other North Korean defector memoirs I have read over the years (including Dear Leader by Jang Jin-Sung).
A gripping read.
I have no way to describe this otherwise.

Not going to put a star rating on this. The story was intensely personal and constantly heartbreaking, but it really sucks to see the author is now an avid Trump supporter. I hope someday she finds complete freedom from the brainwashing of dictators, because she clearly has not yet.

I haven’t looked into the claims that her story isn’t entirely true, but regardless of the exact details, it’s insane that someone can do through the ordeal of escaping North Korea only to support a rapist tyrant who has praised the Kims.

Very difficult to read at points; as bad as you think things are going to get for Yeonmi and her family, they usually get worse. Harrowing and courageous.
