I decided to read this again after watching a Manben episode with Junji Ito, specifically drawing this short comic. Now, I love Layers of Fear even more.

I feel like I can’t ever give Junji Ito anything less than 3 stars because of how creative he is, even if the story isn’t my favorite. This one was quite interesting, but I actually think the story could have been fleshed (heh) out more, and I wouldn’t have minded it being quite a bit longer to get more back story.

wanted to read this because a tiktok said this was (in their opinion) the scariest story by junji ito. maybe its because im reading this in the bright sunshine in a garden filled with chirping birds, but i didn't feel the same way. nonetheless a really great short story by junji ito and i really enjoyed reading it

I dig everything I've read by Ito and I love the premise of this one, but the doctor being hella chill is so silly and I wish it was longer, with more details about the curse.
