Borrowed via KU. It was a decent start and a good finish ~ but most of the middle was a serious case of repeated whiplash. Dax & Remi had a short fling several years ago, he broke her heart by not being the commitment type. (Though there’s no indicator he led her on in any way.) Fast forward 3 years and Remi has been dumped by her fiancé 2 weeks before the wedding and decides to spend her “honeymoon” with her best friend and she meets up with Dax again. There are just way too many arguments and hurt feelings that could have been solved with simple conversations. Remi cannot seem to make up her mind and is constantly flopping back & forth between wanting Dax and going back to Hartford.

Spoiler-ish: I feel like what Remi & Dax do several times *IS* cheating. Remi is supposedly trying to work things out with Hartford. She’s wearing his engagement ring again. However she & Dax flirt, cuddle, kiss, and he even gets her off in a bar bathroom. It may not be PIV sex, but this is not just emotional cheating. And after each “interlude” she seems to regret it and steels herself to go back to Hartford.

I almost DNFd a few times, but a few reviewers said the ending was good and I’ve enjoyed other Ilsa Madden-Mills books, so I stuck with it. I can’t really say I’m happy I did. The cheating really left me with an icky feeling about the book overall.

I liked Dirty English (book 1), but I can’t really say whether I’m up for Spider’s book yet...

This series is really it. I love the writing, banters and witty comebacks. It just makes me so sad when a book is about pining for years but that' s a good book if it evoke the hurt i am feeling. Kudos. Can't wait to read spider

Filthy English is the second book in the English series by Ilsa Madden-Mills. Each book is a standalone story, though they are interconnected. After reading Dirty English, I couldn't wait for more of this world. I was so excited when I found out that we were getting Dax's story, and I really enjoyed it.

Dax and Remi had once found out that a relationship between them would never work, despite their feelings for one another. Years passed and they moved on though they both thought of each other often. But when Remi is left at the altar by her fiance, she goes on her honeymoon to London alone with plans to get drunk and forget about her fiance. But Remi is shocked to run into Dax, and once she does her plans change. Remi intends to move on and she knows Dax is exactly the man to help her do it.

I liked Dax a lot, and I was so hoping we would get his story. He is sexy and charming, and impossible to resist. He is a tattooed bad boy that you can't get enough of, yet he also had an unexpected soft side that we got to see occasionally. I loved how intense he could be at times, but what really got to me was seeing his vulnerability because it wasn't something that showed often. I did have some issues with Remi. While I liked her at times, I did get frustrated with her because of her wishy washy feelings about her ex. Her inability to make up her mind got on my nerves and sort of soured me on her character.

I thought that Dax and Remi had a ton of chemistry and were perfect for one another, but I could have done without her ex being in the story as much as he was. It felt a bit forced at times and as though it was done at times just for the drama. I still liked this story, and it is definitely worth the read for Dax alone. I just wish that Remi had been a bit stronger of a character and hadn't come across as weak as she did at times. I do love how this is a modern take on Romeo and Juliet and that it was new and different while still delivering everything that readers know and love of the classic story. I love a good forbidden story and thought that this was a unique take on that. I know I will read more from Ilsa Madden-Mills in the future, and I would recommend this series to readers who enjoy contemporary romance, especially those that love the NA genre.

I definitely liked the first book a bit more but still enjoyed this one.

Filthy English is the second book of the English series. In it, you will meet Remi and Dax. How they meet was a bit interesting. Remi was engaged to a douche.. but he freaked out two weeks before the big day and dumped it. So at that exact moment he was on my shit list.

This leads to a fun time with tequila, her best friend, and a random ass plane ride to London. Lowkey wish I could randomly jump on a plane ride to London. Back to the book, she goes to masquerade party and winds up meeting Dax. Now of course, they meet a couple of years beforehand.. where he also broke her heart. Right now, the guys in her life suck ass.. but maybe there's hope for redemption?

Now I loved Dax and Remi so freaking much! I hated when Remi's ex-fiance came back into her life because there was no freaking point to it! It also sucked dick that Remi was pregnant and then.. not pregnant. Never gone through that, I can only imagine how people feel during or after that situation. It must be tough.. so I can see how she could somehow go back to her scum of an ex BUT I still don't approve of it.

Besides all of that, I loved the chemistry between these two. It sucks that so many things don't go their way but in the end - it worked out. They were cute.

As with its predecessor, Dirty English, Filthy English is a modern retelling of a classic love story. In this instance, it's Romeo and Juliet, without the tragic ending. I enjoyed the insta-connection between Remi and Dax, and thought it really evoked that Romeo and Juliet feeling. And Madden-Mills's exceptional writing is always a delight to read. So much angst. So much chemistry. I'm so in.

4 ‘They should have gotten their heads out of their arses sooner’ Stars.

Once upon a time there was a jilted princess well in this case not really a princess but you get my drift. Remington Montague has had a tough couple of weeks her engagement was broken off by the groom to be. She lost her deposit of ten grand. She went on her expected honeymoon with her friend Lulu and met a choreographed male perfection all in London, baby. On a night in the town at the club masquerade said choreographed male perfection wasn’t who he turned out to be. Which puts awkward into a whole new category.

Dax Blay is at a turning point in his life and there are two roads that he can take but he isn’t sure which the right one is. He knows that he needs to get his act together he isn’t academic but he has other attributes going for him. Over the summer he has been in London helping his cousin Spider beat his addiction. I smell some books coming up here with Spider and his band The Vital Rejects. Getting back to Dax though he is a man whore although there isn’t any detail in this book it only mentions that he has been with other women.

That is until Remi and Dax meet again they have history it isn’t easy to define their history

She had a funny way of showing it but you can’t hate the first boy you ever loved. He saves her from a really bad situation and they try to become friends it doesn’t work at first but they do become closer. As he thinks that she is still engaged to Hartford his desire to protect her and desire her doesn’t go away no matter how hard he tries. The thing is, Dax is a temporary guy and I’m a forever girl, and the two didn’t go together. Ever. But... he soon changes his tune.

“It’s not over yet,” I muttered under my breath as we walked away.

To him Remi Montague, was the one girl who’d blew his mind-and scared the shit out of him. He could easily break him so he decided to do it first. They realise that they have a lot more in common than they want to.

A lot that went wrong mistakes were made and secrets were kept. But the truth always comes out and he heard the news from someone else instead but he did in a way go searching for the answers.
It was push and pull a lot of the time and that is what annoyed me we moved forward five steps and jumped back by ten steps. Which I found to be really frustrating but the book also brought out other emotions in me. There was a lot of angst in this book and it had me on the edge of my seat. There were times I smiled, and times where I was sad as they could have had something spectacular for a long time but they didn’t see what was right in front of them.

Slowly and I mean slowly the come to their senses and realise what they mean to one another and that you have to accept all the flaws that we have to offer.

I adored Dirty English and with this book is no different. Although there were times where I wanted to bang my head against the wall or throw my kindle out of the window or plain just slap them in the neck hoping that some brain cells are shaken loose and that they get a move on.

As with all men they screw up but Dax did make up for it in the end.

Dear Author and this is not specifically aimed at Ms. Madden-Mills but why can’t you give feminine names to females and not confuse me with the likes of Remi. My brain don’t always function and I need it to be easy sometimes, savvy?

What bugged me:
- It went on too long with Hartford and I wish that it could have been shorter
- The ending between them finally getting their heads out of their arses was rushed and felt anti-climactic in a way. The epilogue did make up for it in some way.
- Constant trying on Dax’s part to forget Remi with other women.
- Not enough communication between the two and they were quite immature at times but I did get some of the reasons behind it.

On a side note I really do feel quite sorry for Hartford, yes I know he left her at the altar but he’d never have had a chance anyway. Maybe he will get a book?
