I liked how this book, at the end, tied everything up seamlessly, leaving no stone unturned. This was different to many other thrillers that I've read, which would leave you tearing your hair out with unanswered questions, story loopholes and convoluted-to-the-point-of-unfollowable plots.
As a character-driven reader, I did struggle with the unlikability of the characters for the major part of the book. Some of the characters turned likable - for me - towards the end, which was a bit late in my opinion (seeing as I'm a character-driven reader). The setting of the book was unremarkable and rather bland, with too many references to the characters' riches and one too many references also to the many pieces of designer garb that the characters happened to possess.
Overall, I wasn't a major fan of the book and found it hard to keep going with at times. That said, I did get a couple of laughs from the novel, especially towards the beginning. I think that more 3D characters and less of a pretentious air surrounding the characters would have made this a more enjoyable read for me.

Charlie leads a good life in London, living and upper-class life with his husband Matthew and their teenaged son. Charlie passes his time by being an Instagram influencer and his life is thrown asunder when a woman Rachel appears in their life. Suddenly, she is always around and even makes her way into their book club. (the nerve!) Until one night, we find Matthew dead at the dinner table with his husband and son, while Rachel calls the police.

The novel jumps back and forth in time from months before the murder to the days immediately after the murder. We see alternating perspectives from Charlie and Rachel, and as they tell their stories we learn (of course) that things aren't as clear cut as we may have initially thought. This was a twisty domestic thriller, set in the homes of the posh London crowd. I liked the Agatha Christie vibe with the twist of LGBTQ+ main characters. As always, I am a great appreciator of alternating perspectives and time lines. Something fell slightly short for me however, maybe it is because I've read too much Agatha Christie and (in recent years) domestic thrillers, so I saw the ending coming. I recommend this one to thriller fans. :)

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy!

3.5 stars.

I thought I had this book sussed out, I thought I new exactly what was going to happen but... This book! Made me question everything I thought was going on, little twists and turns it was like every-time I thought, had all the facts, nope lets throw something else in the mix.

I will start by saying I love the way this book was written. I really enjoyed that element of it. I’ll definitely be checking out another of B. P. Walter’s books.

I feel torn over this book... I feel like I enjoyed it but also hated it? I think it was the characters. The story was interesting but the characters were awful. Not one of them was likeable in my opinion. Especially Charlie!

That being said, 4 stars from me, because 3 seems to harsh. It’s more a 3.5.

Typical thriller - gets you hooked at the beginning so you have to read to the end to find out what’s going on… kinda wish I hadn’t bothered.

Character’s lacked depth. Plot lacked depth.

Bumped it up to 2 stars coz it’s gay, would have been 1 otherwise.

Enjoyed it for an easy read, however the ending let the entire thing down.
