I think I wanted a little more out of this? But then again my visions of what it was going to be was a little askew.
I was hoping for a little more horror but that is my own fault. By far not a bad book, I think the interactions and the characters themselves (especially Captain Nemo) were rather interesting - and now I've found out there's more books I will likely have to check them out!

I suppose it is part of the character, as the story is written from the professor' point of view. While the journey was enjoyable the details became too much for me. At some point my eyes just glided over the many scientific names of the marine and the story started to become a drag. The book read to me as an attempt from the author to glorify his own intellect through the eyes of a supposed intellectual, which turned the character narcissistic in a sense and the story ultimately pretentious. Ultimately it gave the impression that the author is to be described the same.
Some scenes of the book were still a joy to read, however. A true inspiration, even for today. Asides from the many lessons on scientific names (to fill your dictionary with) the story was easy enough to read and to follow.

I devoured this in one sitting, and at a young age too. This is a fabulous story, a work of art.
