Friendships, pop culture references, hilarious kids, and lots of drama. I absolutely loved everything about this book!
I love how it touched on the hardships of black woman, strong empowering woman and how being a mom is not easy but doesn't mean we love our kids any less. With a sprinkle of romance this was a perfect read!

Lauren is a black single mom who works at an OBGYN's office. She is unsure of herself after her divorce and just trying to get back on her feet. Jude is a Pilates instructor/ social media influencer. I loved how strong she was on the outside but still had a ton of issues no one really sees.

I loved everything about this book. I love when there are super smart kids (5 year old Adelaide/Addy is amazing). I love reading about social media influencers (so much fun to see their lives). Both Lauren and Jude's moms have parts in this book. And I was fascinated by each of them. There is some romance but it's definitely not the main focus. But I still adored it.

I had no idea what to expect with this book. This book is why women's fiction is my favorite genre! This book is about two women who are best friends. But they are not perfect. This book is emotional. Relevant. Wonderful. Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes is definitely a 5 star read. I loved this book so much!

for fans of....

pilates, lifelong friends, podcasting, light romance, positive stepmom characters, momboss culture, best friendship, books about single parenting, instagrammers, dificult relationships with parents, realistic characters, personal branding. TW: alcoholism, custody battle, child illness

Found this book on the 3 for $10 shelf at Indigo and now that I’ve read and enjoyed it, I can’t believe this author doesn’t get more buzz. Great voice, smart dialogue, and complex enough to talk about real issues (experiences of Black women in America, alcoholism, narcissistic parents) without that weird feeling of trying too hard to educate the reader. Refreshing to read a book that’s honest and real.

Although Lauren’s return to dating was part of the subplot, Jude and Lauren’s lifelong friendship was the focus of this read. It is SO rare to find a book that centers friendship and relationships with children/parents, instead of romance.

I recommend this read to women entrepreneurs who will appreciate the references to email lists, content calendars, panel discussions, etc - written accurately without being cheesy - a real accomplishment considering other novels out there!

Always love an Alexa Martin book! This was an amazing story about two friends and their intertwined lives of parenting and navigating adulthood. The book felt rushed at the end but it was still overall a great read that felt relatable and reiterated how important good friendships are!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley.
This was such a sweet, fun read, even when it delved into more serious topics. It felt relevant to the times and I definitely related to many of Lauren’s feelings as a parent. I loved the focus on Lauren and Jude’s friendship as the center of the story, I wish we had more books that focused in friendship as the primary relationship in the plot.

Yes yes to all of this.

I really really enjoyed this one. Like a lot. I loved how relatable Lauren and all the mom stuff was. There were a lot of great lines about parenting and small humans.

I also LOVED the relationship between Lauren and Jude. I loved seeing how they supported each other in life, parenting, and love.

This is such a wonderful story about the power of friendship and the challenges of motherhood. Definitely recommend.

This one was so refreshing.

It wasn’t your typical mom friend and childfree friend novel because these characters felt so real.

This book showed real women with real problems, like custody battles and substance abuse.

I will definitely be reading anything Alexa Martin writes in the future!

This one started off so fun! Lauren and Jude ~ single and broke best friends ~ decide the best thing to do is live together, and Lauren’s 5 year old daughter is part of this equation. This was never the path these ladies thought they would end up on, but it is what it is.

I really liked Jude's character at first. She is an Instagram Influencer and a party girl who supports her overbearing mother. When the story takes a deep dive into Jude's life, things become more serious and her behavior is no longer fun, but extremely reckless. Lauren is the responsible one, kind of. She is also the gullible one who believes everything her ex tells her. I liked that she put herself out there again, and started dating someone who was nice to her. I also liked Lauren’s ex’s new significant other which was a fun twist to the serious custody plot.

Like I mentioned this one started off strong, but ended on a more somber note. I also think it could have been shortened by about 100 or more pages.
