A 3 1/2 star book that I rounded up. Kept me guessing and while the reveal was a little unbelievable, it was believable enough to not ruin the story for me.

Having recently contracted COVID-19, I needed a digital book I could get immediately from my library to keep my mind of my aches and pains and the fact I can't smell or taste.  I also wanted a book that was brainless but kept me interested.  A tall order to fill.   I have never read Kate White before, but I picked this book because the synopsis caught my eye.  Because my brain is in a fog and I don't feel great, my reviewed might be slanted.  I enjoyed it, even though it seemed kind of far-fetched to me.  Ally Linden possibly has the worst luck of anyone in the whole world, including me who contracted COVID-19 despite social distancing, hand washing and faithful mask wearing.  (Speaking of masks....if a masked man tries to kill you, is knocked unconscious in the fight, and then tied up waiting for the police to arrive.... for heavens sake, remove the mask and find out who the heck it is.  You deserve it!)

I read it all it one day, so that might be the reason I found the ending to be a bit rushed.  It seems like all of a sudden everything wrapped up really neatly.  But it fit the bill and kept me entertained and I found myself engrossed in Ally's problems, which are way worse than a little COVID.

this was a pleasant surprise.
I went into this blind and did not expect much, but I was ready to DNF, except, I was not given the chance!

this book keeps you guessing and on your feet all the way until the end.
a few weeks ago I was hoping to find a book that dealt with some sort of mystery along with any form of amnesia, however without boring repetition, and this book surfaced.

the book talks about a woman who suddenly lost recollection of 2 days of her life, found herself stinking and wet, and back at her old job that she hadn't been to for 5 years. they suspected a form of dissociation due to trauma, and then things start unraveling!

we deal with somewhat realistic characters, smart working professionals, problematic relations, friendships, therapists, and a lot of guessing and footwork!

we get to suspect several culprits, and you think you're smart enough to see something far-fetched being the twist! but no, you are wrong, I promise you!

I love that there is a lot of communication in this book, but still has a good plot. all possible plot holes are answered, and everything is accounted for.

very fast-paced, very easy to follow through and read. you are reminded of certain facts that are crucial to the story, however not in ways that felt redundant or annoying!

we witness another crime, and we visit a 25-year-old crime, and though the revelation was abrupt jump toward the end( was slightly weird), I enjoyed it!

HOWEVER,
yes, there is communication but the communication is BLAND at best! the husband is super annoying and acts in a horrible way, very suspicious.

as I mentioned earlier the 25-year-old crime revelation was, meh, its ok, there was no need to "re-open a cold case", and honestly the time as to why open it now, after her trauma that led to dissociation was weird ( it should not be connected, and they should not know, if you read it you might know what I'm talking about).

it was enjoyable, short, quick, and not a lot of annoying things going on, but not stellar!

This book started out strong but the ending was weak.
