Older Hazel is so cute but I still miss traffic cone shaped Hazel.

This series just hits all the feelings and is so hopeful. This volume was much more eventful than #5, so I'm glad that it's picking the pace back up again.

In this volume of Saga I noticed that Hazel's narration became really poetic and beautiful again. I thoroughly enjoy her comments about her parent's lives and decisions and the overarching thoughts on interpersonal relationships and life in general. They beautifully tie everything together.

Generally, the plot once more takes numerous entertaining turns when Hazel begins her education and has to hide who she is or
when Alana and Marko meet again. I enjoy their dynamic so much!
The motivations behind the actions that cause these events are also a focal point of the narrative. Here, the distinctness of each character makes for a continuously surprising read. Pretty much each chapter displays one or more characters struggling with their position. And I loved it!

This volume is chock-full of action and beginnings of new interesting plot lines. We get to see Hazel's physical and mental growth, the new life that her grandmother makes for herself, new side characters that bring a lot of potential to the table, and Alana and Marko reunited. Old characters also return and are just as intriguing and fun to watch as ever, and it ends with a big plot point that setups a nice cliffhanger for the next volume. Great development for the story so far!

I find it so difficult to rate these volumes, because they contain such small segments of the overall story. I'm still intrigued to keep on reading though.

We skip forward in time in this one, and also get introduced to some new characters! What I enjoy about these later volumes is the way that some of the characters have completely evolved from the beginning (like Prince Robot IV). A great character arc. And he's not the only one!

This is my favorite volume in the Saga series so far. I'm gearing up for the return of this extensive series next year, and I'm almost caught up. In volume 6, I think the time jump did the story some favors, and it returned some hope for these characters' futures that had been sorely lacking previously. So what was there to love, in the vaguest, non-spoilery-ish sense?

1. The beginnings of a conversation on gender identity, particularly for those outside society's categorization or those whom others willfully miscategorize
2. The return of Izabel, my favorite fictional babysitter
3. The arrival of Hazel as an active participant in the plot
4. A teacher who doesn't suck (go, team! give that woman a raise and some actual time for herself!)
5. The return of my favorite reporters and their mission to uncover the truth/story of a lifetime while dodging homophobia
6. Last but not least, I offer an ode to Marko's brief flirtation with a beard. Alana told him to lose it, and she has never made a more foolish choice. Did she SEE him? Did she miss the swoon-inducing qualities of Marko with a beard and a sword/shield combo?? Is she trying to punish me by removing it from the page so soon? These are my questions.

I didn't like the past few volumes, especially the last volume much. This is a very welcome return to form. The balance of drama and humor in this volume is really well done. Side plot threads and characters have got just the right amount of time allocated to them. All the plot threads have been woven together nicely with each other. Unlike the previous volume, I don't have any major issues with with this one. Just one minor issue, not enough Ghüs. Can't get enough of Ghüs. WE NEED MORE OF GHÜS. That's it.
