I don’t know why this book is. 3.67 on Goodreads, because it was SO GOOD! The author, Rachel Koller Croft, did a FABULOUS job of painting the characters in the most detailed way. In addition, the twists had my heart nearly leaping out of my chest with beats faster than a bullet train. I thought Rachel wrapped the story up nicely, also. If you’re a fan of the tv show Imposters, YOU MUST read this book!

The writing in this book was air tight. I felt like the plausibility of circumstances fell a little bit in the last chunk of the book, but crazy, manic women always need deniable plausibility, right?

Definitely a book with morally grey characters, and killer dialogue.

A favorite line of mine from the book goes, “The afternoon tea was in full swing with canapés and caviar and cunty behavior.” Like so true bestie.

Fans of Gone Girl and other “good for her” media should definitely pick this book up.

Rating: 4/5 stars

Bea is a con woman determined to marry New York’s most eligible bachelor, Collin Case, but her past may be about to catch up with her when she embarks on a game of cat and mouse with Collin’s best friend.

First things first: I don’t personally consider this one a thriller, or at least the kind of thriller you probably think of when you hear that term. It is, rather, a kind of almost-lit-fic-ish suspense, slotting in neatly with the rising trend in “con artist fiction” that’s sweeping through books and television right now.

That said, once I reset my expectations in order to appreciate Stone Cold Fox for what it is, I really enjoyed it. I’m a fan of an unlikable narrator, and Bea’s inner monologue was infuriating at times but also made me laugh. She’s not a great person, but she’s definitely an entertaining one. The plot kept me on my toes, and I found myself tearing through the book by the end, eager to see what would happen next. The ending may be a bit polarizing for some, and I’m still figuring out exactly how I felt about it—but I am VERY excited for the forthcoming tv adaptation, or the possibility of a sequel novel (or both!)

Once again, a fun pick for my book club that I’m excited to discuss this week!

Recommended to anyone, but especially if you like: unlikable narrators; con artist lit; lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous

CW: References to sexual abuse (including of minors); murder/death; child abuse
