4.5 stars rounding up to 5 stars for GoodReads. When you mix horror and metal music, it is always going to work for me and that is true of this novel. I loved the setup for the novel even though it took a bit for me to get invested in where the story was going. I really liked following the main character as she struggled to survive and remember the past. This one has a bit of an ambiguous end that I can see not working for some people, however, it very much worked for me and this is one that I think will be underrated by others. The pacing was great and it has that element of Hendrix's gruesome horror that I love. Defintiely recommend around spooky season time and to all lovers of metal music. This one made my heart happy while listening and is a fantastic audiobook. There's nothing new or mind-blowing about this one but it is solid horror fantasy through and through.

Grady Hendrix has clever ideas.  This book had a few of them and a couple of tense, scary moments.
