I really struggled to get through this one. I don't know if it's because it's fairly dated or if I just don't care for le Carré's writing style. Or both. I didn't care about Johnathan by the end. Just wanted it to be over.

I have not read any other books by John Le Carre, so I have nothing to compare this to, but I found this book to be dull. I read it because I want to watch the mini series, which has a great cast. I always try to read the book before the movie.

I couldn't get into the story. The story was not boring or anything like that but it did not grip me at all.

The Night Manager by John le Carre (1994)

I really enjoyed the TV series of this with Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston, and Olivia Colman but I found the book rather dull. Clearly it's much older (written in 1993) so most of the tech has changed, but there is much more focus on the machinations of the intelligence agencies which I was not that interested in. The show writers came up with a much more satisfying denouement whereas the book just sort of finishes.
