This is a story between two mcs written through a series of letters to each other. Both are poor Russians, and both are dealing with the troubles of poverty while trying to comfort and help each other. I think this was a very real way of expressing how people experience poverty up close & personal (making ends meet, addiction, loss of love, status as central to a person’s self). I also liked that while both characters are essentially helpless, they are very protective of each other and their dignity.
