I came across Protecting His Own this morning when I was scanning Sinclair's website, and you should have heard my shriek of excitement when I realised a new story had been released. Nolan and Beth are an adorable couple, and adding two young boys into the mix only enhances the feel-good elements of the narrative. Reading the child abuse scenes was physically uncomfortable, however. Never have I wanted to reach in and punch someone more than I did when the grandmother lashed out at Connor for wetting the bed. And don't get me started on Jermaine and Price. It terrifies me to think that there are people like them in the world, who don't think twice about hurting innocents. But no, aside from these scenes, this book was a welcome dip back into the Shadowlands universe and it has me super excited for Uzuri, Adrian and Max.

I was distracted by the way she wrote the children.

Very sweet story featuring Beth and Nolan and their journey in starting a family. I thought the story with the two boys was quite sweet and it was good to see how Beth and Nolan's relationship has evolved after the happily ever after. Lots of cameos by some of Shadowlands faves as well. This book is focused less on romance but it's still a solid read. I always have fun jumping back into this world.
