So, a meteor or something crashed on earth, caused firestorms, and blocked out the sun. With the sun blocked out, it's perpetual cold & darkness and the vampires have started roaming the streets.
There are few settlements of humans living/surviving in bunkers.
We meet a few characters - Darcy, Hope, a love interest, a father figure, a reasonable vampire, and characters that are there to be killed off by vampires.
Darcy is a badass vampire hunter, Hope is childish, a bit stupid, and thinks turning into a vampire might not be that bad.
Of course, Hope gets into trouble and the big sister has to save her. The rescue mission goes wrong and we have a new vampire.
Darcy is an overlord vampire, a class of vampires with extraordinary abilities and it's her mission to save the world.
The story is nothing new, the lore & the world isn't fleshed out which I suppose it is difficult in a 4.5 hours book. There are a lot of interesting concepts and questions in it. The vampires have a queen who is powerful enough to summon a meteor(?) Darcy is the first overlord vampire in 3000 years, why(?) How is she going to kill the queen and save the world(?)
It is definitely entertaining though, the sound effects & voice acting is good and has all the production value you expect from a good audible original.

It's an audio drama, not an audiobook, and that's okay. This was a lot of fun. A lot of the other reviews for this were hilarious. "Too loud!" "What is this? This isn't an audiobook." "This should've been a TV show" like audio dramas haven't been a thing for decades. My only concern is that this is very much the promise of a larger story, so while I think it stands fairly well on its own, it leaves itself VERY open for sequels, so if they don't happen, it'll take away from any potential longevity.
This was an immersive audio experience loved it.
I wish we could have gotten more world building, because I was a bit confused as to how the world came to be.
But enjoyed the star studded cast and the sound effects. Felt like I was listening to an action packed HBO show.

This was an outstanding production! I hope there is a sequel and even a TV production of this in the near future! I loved everything about it...the characters, storyline, narrators, and music!
"They came after the impact and the firestorms. When the sun went dark. Like they’d been there all along. Just waiting."
