I did not like this book one bit. The narrative structure is uneven, descriptions often rambling and uninteresting, characters flat.

But my biggest problem with this book is its blatant racism. It is riddled with racist stereotypes. I saw someone describe it as ”French colonial propaganda” and I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. Ick.

I cannot recommend this book to anyone.

Au début j’aimais beaucoup. Mais le rythme est hyper lent, trop lent, trop descriptif. Des petites histoires par ci par là mais on comprend pas trop. On parle beaucoup de Selma pour qu’au final on laisse son histoire en plan d’un coup hop la mariée a Mourad hasta la vista. On sait pas où est Omar pendant tout ce temps, ni ce qu’il fait après. Aucun réel dénouement à la fin. Fin bref, le livre se lit car c’est bien écrit donc on rentre dans l’histoire mais je l’ai trouvé un peu ennuyant. Je sais qu’il y a un 2 mais je suis pas sure d’avoir envie de le lire.
