The first half of the book was a little slow; basically just showing Mason traveling in the Other Realms and talking to all the wrong people. Only Fennrys really got any action, when he wasn't mooning over "the loss of his tru wuv!!" *sigh*

And I just found Heather's narratives unnecessary. For the most part, they didn't add anything to the story, and frankly they just annoyed the Hel out of me, since they only appeared when something was happening to another character I actually heated to be reading about. Same goes for Cal's narratives. Just pointless.

Other than that, the book was fairly eventful. This is definitely a book that was made to prepare the readers for a grand finale. Can't wait to see just what that finale is!!

A really great sequel to a good series, though the ending left a little bit to be desired, and there as another cliffhanger, even more nail-biting than the first. Eek. Anyway, the story picks up nicely and carries through a lot of mythology and trials for our heroes Mason and Fennrys, which I really appreciated. I love the straightforwardness of their relationship, which isn't to say that it's not complicated. I also loved how other characters like Heather were given a little more spotlight, and I will always say yes to more Rafe. That said, I think the ending was a little out of the blue. Don't get me wrong, it had really, really good twists that I didn't see coming, but it kind of felt like a lot of coincidence and abruptness. Not to mention that a character who appeared out of nowhere (seriously, what the hell) did something MONUMENTALLY stupid at the last second, which just seemed to be for the purpose of adding tension. Still, I'm hoping it will all wrap up nicely in the last book. There are a couple characters I would like to return since they seem important, and I'm invested enough that I genuinely care enough to want to see these characters succeed. Fingers crossed!

This book definitely helped me get closer to the characters, in that a lot more was revealed about their personalities. It's almost like the events happening to them, bring out their stronger personality traits. I can't wait for book 3.

I want the next book NOW!!! I absolutely loved Descendant just as much as I loved the first book. Often I find the second book in a trilogy/series to be my least favorite because they sometimes feel like a filler, and are often a bit slower paced. Luckily this was not the case at all!

Descendant picks up right where we left off in Starling , which gets points in my book. I hate time jumps within series. If something ends on a cliffhanger, I expect to start right back up and not have to deal with jumping ahead several months and having to puzzle out what happened in explanations and flashbacks throughout a book. So thank goodness Lesley Livingston just got right back into it. Immediately we begin the journeys of both Fenn and Mason to find their way back to each other.

In my review of Starling , I gush about how much I love the characters. I do not want to repeat myself a lot here, so I will just say that I still stand by my original assessment. I still love all of those l characters, and we are introduced to some new faces who definitely add to the mix and amp it up to give us more answers to questions we've been left with. It is still fun trying to figure out where some allegiances lie, and who can be trusted, because nothing is clearly black and white.

Of course I am still obsessed with the concept of multiple sets of deities from different belief systems crashing into one world, that novelty certainly hasn't lost its appeal. This world is by far one of my favorites that I have been to, and I have been to quite a lot.

Lesley Livingston's writing continues to amaze me. She is able to so clearly transport you to her world and completely immerse you in it! I love her writing style, and her descriptions are so rich in detail that you truly feel a part of the story.

All in all, I completely believe Descendant lived up to its predecessor; it was just as unexpected and action-packed, and ends on such a huge cliffhanger that I cannot believe I have to wait for the next one! Ahh!!! Five stars again for this series! You will not be disappointed!!

Pretty sure when you read a book and the whole world stops for a second before you listen to what happens in that moment that it makes a reader/listener need to finish the book. It happened in the Hall of Valhalla and the fall out in the book was intense. Much more character development, clean romance and more intricacies between the various Greek and Norse mythological entities.

Didn't quite fulfill the promise in the first book, and I'm not entirely sure the deity mix works for me. [a:Kevin Hearne|4414255|Kevin Hearne|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1289238438p2/4414255.jpg]'s Iron Druid series works because each mythology stays faithful to itself, and distinct, whereas here there's a lot more crossover.
SpoilerA Norse worshipper who's healed with dwarven silver similar to Nuada from Celtic mythology?
We get a lot more time with Mason and Fennrys and Rafe, and it appears Heather, Gwen and Roth are being set up for more in Book 3, but as a whole this book seems disjointed. I'd hoped it would continue strongly, but it's really fallen to "middle book syndrome".

Whenever I pick up a Lesley Livingston book, whether it be about fairies, time travel, or norse mythology, I know it will be an amazing read, and I am so glad to tell you that Descendent was even more than I ever expected.

In Descendant we continue to follow Fenn and Mason has she travels to Asgard, alone and frightened about what just happened to her. Fenn is desperately trying to get her back but doesn't know how. He has to trust his friends in getting him into Asgard safely and getting Mason out without turning herself into the Valkyrie her father wants her to become.

I have to tell you right now that I loved this book, I think I read it in one day, on my two subway rides to and from work. I couldn't seem to put it down and after finishing it I declared that this book was better than the first. This is something I do not say often because most often it is not the case. In a trilogy it is usually the second book that usually sufferes in comparison, but not Descendant.

This sequel had way more mythological creatures which were both terrifying and amazing at the same time, and I found the cast of characters more interesting this time around. Especially a certain Norse god we meet near the beginning. He was one of my favourites of the whole book, even though his spotlight was only for a short time, I hope he is the next book? Lesley?

What I think I loved most about this book was the amount of perspectives we got in the narrative. We did not only get Fenn and Mason, but also her brothers and some friends as well. This made for interesting perspectives on a story that was somewhat one sided in the last book. And just to warn all you readers out there that hate cliffhanger endings? This one is a big one, and it was something i thought would never happen. And I commend Lesley on her ability to take the plot to a place that not all readers might be ready for, but ultimately needed to happen. I seriously cannot wait to see where this series ends.
