This sequel is incredible and I really loved it - I really only have two complaints. 1 is the pacing - it took me forever to get through the first half of the book. Once I got about 60-70% of the way, I could hardly put it down, but it took me a long time to get there. 2 is the ending! There’s so many loose ends, so many things left unfinished. The literal ending is cool but still leaves a lot unsaid and it would’ve been nice to see it rather than what we got. Really left a lot to be desired.

A great story with excellent characters. I would love more books to tell about what happens later, and I was literally thinking just that when
the hyena jumped in and gave her epilogue.
That was incredibly unique and heartfelt, I loved it. I might have cried a little.

I wanted to love this more than I did. Conceptually, I did love it, and I liked how the series resolved at the end. The use of the griot as a frame narrative was excellent, and the magic and mythology was wonderful, but the experience of reading it felt like a slog. So much happens in a relatively short amount of time, and I almost wish the series had been longer so we could have gotten to know the characters better.
