An easy and delightful book to read. Elijah and Julian are loveable nuanced characters. And all the side characters are amazing as well. Especially Camille.
I loved that this wasn’t a coming out story and that these were characters who are comfortable in their sexuality.
Overall I really enjoyed this and I’m excited to read another book by Kara Bietz

mildly vague spoilers!!!
sidelined is adorable and wrenching and makes my heart pine. Seeing characters that are in some ways so different, yet so similar, and still love each other because of those things is an amazingly human thing to see- and something i don’t often see in YA books.
Elijah and Julian got mad at each other- but they recovered and communicated and behaved in a way that was unlike some other books i’ve read. Misunderstandings are my least favorite tropes ever; but if there ever was a misunderstanding here, it was handled in a way that was mature and healthy- you could feel the love pouring out of the pages.
above all, my favorite thing was the description of Crenshaw; the diverse southeastern texas town was completely unlike any ideas i had had in my mind (as someone who’s never been to texas) and i just fell in love with it. Birdie, Figg, Frankie and the entire team- it was too good to put down.
