Quick, enjoyable read.

Funniest line In the book: "Trump, the fattest of the three Pekingese...". So how did the author know, when this book was published in 2013, how hilarious that sounds in 2017. I wonder if they'll keep that In the movie.

In a word: ridiculous. Yeah, I flew through it, but way too materialistic/superficial to take seriously - it's like a mindless magazine you keep reading because you don't have much else to do.

Fun and chill book!

Description:
When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home, long drives to explore the island, and quality time with the man she might one day marry. What she doesn't know is that Nick's family home happens to look like a palace, that she'll ride in more private planes than cars, and that with one of Asia's most eligible bachelors on her arm, Rachel might as well have a target on her back. Initiated into a world of dynastic splendor beyond imagination, Rachel meets Astrid, the It Girl of Singapore society; Eddie, whose family practically lives in the pages of the Hong Kong socialite magazines; and Eleanor, Nick's formidable mother, a woman who has very strong feelings about who her son should--and should not--marry. Uproarious, addictive, and filled with jaw-dropping opulence, Crazy Rich Asians is an insider's look at the Asian JetSet; a perfect depiction of the clash between old money and new money; between Overseas Chinese and Mainland Chinese; and a fabulous novel about what it means to be young, in love, and gloriously, crazily rich.

My Thoughts:

DNF
I can't. I can't read this any more. I can't do this to myself any more. I read 130 pages. I went into this book thinking it's going to be a cute story about a couple in love. A couple that has to face prejudice from a family. But no that's not what you get. What you get is a bunch of rich people complaining about how they are not the right kind of rich or those people over there are not worthy enough. Also talking about their designer shit. (every page. Also pardon my language).

“Despite this embarrassment of riches, he felt extremely deprived compared to his friends. He didn’t have a house on the peak, he didn’t have his own plane. He didn’t have a full time crew for his yacht, which was much too small to hold more than 10 guests for brunch comfortably. He didn’t have any Rothgos or pollocks……...And unlike leo, eddies parents were the old fashioned type. Insisting that the moment eddie graduated, that he learn to live off your earnings. It was so bloody unfair.”

I guess that the author was trying to do some kind of satire, but it didn't work. All he achieved was to write unrealistic, two dimensional people who have a god complex. I didn't care about the five car parking spots you had to pay $250,000 each for. Or the ca-tore dresses you got from Paris, or your temperature controlled closest.....

In the 130 pages i read of this book. We saw nick and Rachel three times. THREE! Isn't this suppose to be about them! The sad thing is i liked Rachel and nick. They seemed great and if the story had showed them more and the rich family less i would have continued. But i can't make it through everything else. Now before i wrap up this review i want to say that i think the author did a good job at describing the architecture of the buildings. That's all i liked.

I hope that anyone who reads this book has a better time than i did. Good luck and happy reading.
