The layout and writing just doesn't work for me. There are so many perspectives to keep track of (at least one didn't feel relevant to the story). Plus there are a whole bunch of Asian slang and terms to keep track of (which for the record, I really appreciate the author not compromising that). I'm sure the story is great as I do love the movie, but the book just isn't working for me.

It was such a fun read. I fell in love with the characters it's just a great book over all I would recommend it to everyone.

Listened as an audiobook, which I think was a good choice! The narrator gave each of the characters distinct personalities in her portrayals of each of them, which helped keep the various characters straight in my head. Still a bit confusing given the sheer number of characters, but very entertaining overall. Excited to keep listening and to watch the movie!

I have mixed feelings. I appreciate the diversity in characters getting attention in more mainstream media lately, and I found it to be a very refreshing and compelling story.

That being said, I think that the book could perpetuate harmful stereotypes through offensive language or ideas.

For example, the author uses the N word and the F word, and I don't believe the person who said the N word to be a Black character, and although it might be an extremely subtle implication that it's wrong to do so, there was no outright indication of the offensiveness or harmfulness, so I feel that it really just normalizes use of such terms.

It also uses the G slur, specifically in a way that's supposed to seem positive, which is troubling when many people still think the word isn't offensive.

There's also another point in the book where ideas of blatant homophobia and toxic masculinity are displayed in a way that is not constructive and thus potentially harmful.

Fun, fast read!

Fun, over the top, entertaining read. It was bingeable and the perfect summer read. Not a lot of depth, and the extreme wealth almost made me sick. The ending felt a little rushed and lots of things unresolved. Guess I’ll need to read the next one :)
