Brave New World is a stunning, beautifully written dystopia. It's a bit difficult to get into at first. The first few pages are dense and somewhat confusing; but once you get the hang of it, it completely captivates you. It's incredible how the whole story unfolds; it constantly leaves you in shock and  wondered if this could ever happen in our world (scarily, yes). This book made me appreciate even more how important it is to enjoy the pleasures of our world: art, beauty, emotion, imperfection. Let's not let humanity forget to feel 🙌🥹.

To me the first half of the book was boring. There were some interesting parts here and there, like the explanation of the world, but for the most part I couldn't get into it. However, by chapter 13 I started to get into it; probably, because of John "the savage" starts taking over as the protagonist. My favorite part was when it is just John and Mustapha Mond discussing what is better: comfort and happiness, or God, poetry, real danger, freedom, goodness, and sin (or as Mond calls it unhappiness).

This is so fucking boring, and where it's not, it's frustrating. Yeah, it's a classic. Sure. Whatever. I'm glad to have gotten it off of my "Need to Read Before I Die" list if only to have the thought experiment (we may be mass-controlled by pleasure and not by tyranny as 1984 suggests) squirrelled away in the back of my head and never have to revisit this text again. John is the most insufferable, pretentious, violent misogynist, and to have him presented as the antithesis to this dystopian society makes me very sad.
