Think Jurassic Park but with monsters.
I had a lot of fun in the beginning of this book. I love the premise and was stoked. Unfortunately it fell flat for me. The leaping between characters without any clear indication of who is talking was off-putting. I was mildly confused the whole time. It was frustrating because I wanted to love it so much.

I definitely felt like I was taking a gamble on reading this one. Not my normal style. HFT was actually quite fun! It reminded me a lot of the movie Cabin in the Woods... the part where all the monsters get out in the building and it's pure chaos... but in the woods. It made me want to know more about the monsters. It made me wish for some creepy crypto zoo minus any Jurassic Park style mishaps. I appreciated departing and reentering the various storylines. A little cheesy, a little nail biting, a little funny, a little gorey and a lot of fun.

The first half was great! And then the author took it out back and Old Yeller'd it.
It's trying a Jurrasic Park vibe, but just doesn't hit. There's too many characters, and none of them have personality. Every man in this book is constantly thinking about and commenting on the women's bodies. The violence is boring. I'm over it.
I loved parts of it and other parts fell flat. Could've used more monsters surprisingly. Also eff off with the incessant fatphobia. Find a different trope and leave us in peace. I'm so sick of it.
