This is the second book in the Lucifer Box series, Lucifer is the same bisexual gentleman assassin as he was in the first book, but this time the mystery takes a more religious aspect, which for man named Lucifer, seems pretty apt...

I enjoyed this book, there are some great lines. It's written from Lucifer's point of view and his personality shines through in his voice. Gatiss is great at giving Lucifer a snarky, sasssy tone of voice and it makes for great reading!

This book isn't for the younger reader, with implied sexual scenes with both male and female characters, which are written well and not in too much detail which means that the book remains easy to read and flows well.

However, as being written by a gay man, the representation is good and not used as a plot point. Everything about Lucifer remained a bit about Lucifer. The added bonus of meeting his sister (who's name works amazingly with the surname of box- but I'm not spoiling that, you need to read it to find out)

I'm looking forward to re-reading the last book in the trilogy, The Black Butterfly as these books are both climatic and humorous- Gatiss adds a bit of himself into the writing, but not too much, just enough to give it some charm. I could see this series easily becoming a TV show- it's got all the elements to be entertaining.

Pretty easy read, flew through this
Obsessed with mr box he’s such a diva

It is often the problem with sequels that they are not as good as their predecessors. And this is also the case with this book. Well, it’s not easy to top the evil scheme of the first part, but I doubt that it was really necessary to bring the devil into this. Also, why do sequels always have to be bigger and better and faster and louder?
Having said that, the book was also a rather good sequel, because it didn’t repeat jokes or characters or plotlines from the first part, but was completely different. Whereas book 1 was set, to a large part, in London, we didn’t get to read about London at all this time round. There were also many new characters (just one other, apart from Lucifer Box, made also an appearance in The Vesuvius Club). I will never forgive Mark Gatiss for killing off my favourite character, though. My favourite character from book 1, that is.
This part was also much darker and less funnier than the first one, which is to a large part due to the topic it deals with. But it was still entertaining and thrilling and it used interesting imagery. My favourite game was to spot exact phrases or sentences from the episodes of “Sherlock” Gatiss has written. For example, in my edition, there’s one on page 208. “I saw things. Terrible things.”

A charity shop find, it transpired to be the second book in a series but this made little difference to the reading experience. It was a 'shocker' in seveal senses and certainly not quite what I expected when reading it. Nonetheless, it was a very easy and quick read and I had fun despite the 'shock' value of some of the plot and events. I would probably read any others in the series if I came across them but wouldn't go hunting.

Good fun. A fast-paced, light read of a spy story with a dash of the supernatural. The bad guys are Nazi-esque fascists. Main character is bisexual and tends to hop in and out of bed with people, but while there are a couple of sex scenes, most of it is implied so it's not overly spicy. Written in the first person, but it didn't bother me. Second book in the series, but they're only loosely connected; if you wanted to read this one first, you could.

Part of me really wants to like this series, with its arch knowing references and writing, but mostly I'm let down by the mystery plots, which are really thin.

Sly fun

Jolly good romp. I read it when on holiday alone. Marvellous fun for chilly nights tucked up in bed!

This is more like it. I enjoyed the first Lucifer Box novel but it left me a little underwhelmed. This one satisfies, mixing old-fashioned adventure and pulp fiction with subversive sex appeal and Hammer-movie horror. Loads of fun.
