Similarly moving and challenging as the first book, but phew, the homophobia was almost too much. It should have been a predictable progression from the first book, if I’d have thought about it, but I hadn’t, so I wasn’t prepared. The same culture of toxic masculinity that feeds the destructive misogyny in book one, fuels the homophobia in book 2. I may take a little break before I begin the last book in the trilogy. So far I definitely recommend these books - if you enjoy descriptive stories about the complexities and contradictions of being human, but beware of the CW.

This series is really just devastating. We pick up with most of the characters from the previous book, and we trace the next few months of their lives as they navigate the fallout of the Beartown hockey team being dissolved. It's tense and sad and moving and thought-provoking, and Backman is able to humanize every single character.

This book made me emotional but not too much. It hurts to know what happened to some of the characters, even the one that was introduced in this book and taken away. Pacing is medium, my being slow is not the book’s fault but my busy schedule. But I admit the last 6 chapters are the ones I breezed through. I love the characters, everyone are likeable, even those that are not good.

This book is so highly relevant for all that is happening in european countries right now. I found it quite scary while on the other hand hopeful.

Backman did not disappoint, I'm not surprised. I loved this one just as much as "Beartown" if not more. Impeccable writing and story telling, the characters are deep, and their connections with each are meaningful and emotional. This is the kind of book that just speaks to my soul.
