Modernist poets are really hit or miss for me, & this one fell right in the middle. Baudelaire’s very early explorations in prose poetry were fascinating in form but dull in content. His one-page or shorter poems were my favorites. Once they stretched onto two pages or more, he lost me.

I feel mixed about this. I didn’t particularly enjoy reading it, but I did appreciate its technique and am glad I read it.

3,5 stars*

All of these short stories were well written and worked because of their length, which was at most five pages and sometimes not even a full page. Some really stood out as great tales and that's why i went for four stars. Cake, Eyes of The Poor & Let's Bash The Poor were my favourites if i had to pick three.

I found the quote by this author,"The devil's finest trick is to persuade you that he does not exist" and knew I had to read this book. The writing is absolutely beautiful and lyrical. I especially enjoyed the lengthy introduction to this volume, as I had not much knowledge of Baudelaire or French poetry of tbe 19th century era. I look forward to revisiting this collection and reading more of his work in the future. I appreciated the stream of consciousness style throughout the poems, but also found them to correlate well together.

krótkie, poetyckie i piękne formy trafiają do mnie jakoś mocniej i bardziej osobiście. dobry początek czytelniczego roku.
