What the heck this book is just crazy looking for the blood gospel and I still don't understand where the boy tommy fits into all this but I guess why the call it a series right? But the last few pages were definitely a shocker! Really?! What heck

Finally, a book with vampires that are soulless monsters. That's always was my definition. This book is amazing. I love all the characters, the story and all the twists. What a journey! I'm really tired of so many emotions. This book is a rollercoaster!

I knew going into this that it would be a bit different than Rollin's other stuff. And, indeed it is. Vampires, werewolves, and blood sacrifices... so many books (and movies) of this genre. It's just getting tired and old. Although the writing was good, the story did become a little convoluted... and unoriginal. After reading nearly half the novel I simply lost interest. I suppose I ought to stick to the Sigma series. Moving on.

OH SNAP. I was SO wrong about who the informant was inside the Sanguinists! I need the next one. NOW! Full review to come!

This book was great! I am a huge fan of James Rollins he is a master at pacing and suspense and his characters are always able to draw you in and make you root for them. This book was masterfully mixed with a little bit of gothic fantasy twist but still kept all the historical action that Rollins is usually known for. I literally devoured this whole book in less than two days. I mean who needs sleep when you have such a great story. The story didn't fully end and was left open for a 2nd book; I can't wait to read it.

While this book was full of archetypical characters and a mix of the thriller/supernatural/historical mystery genres, it was an engaging and fun read. It doesn't pretend to be highbrow literature and I didn't pretend to be looking for it when I picked it up. I will definitely be reading the next one.

Like its vampires, irredeemable.
