I reached about 25% until I finally gave up. It’s not the book’s fault, it’s mine. The premise (and reviews) alluded to intricate political/magical settings, dark characterization and magic. However, the story was delivering a mediocre heroine, a cookie-cutter “hero” and a setting that showed promise, but remained lacklustre in execution. I think I expected too much.
