Always a good read, but this one didn't deliver much in the way of character development or major plot shifts. Still, you can't beat a few hours spent with Sookie and her crew.

Someone tries to kill Sookie at least 4x; the bar is firebombed, 4 thugs try to kidnap her in the bar days later, 2 people break into her house and she runs through the woods, and then the cause for all of it tries by using some of Sookie’s friends against her.
Sookie finds Amelia has overstepped her bounds in her short visit to Bon Temps when she finds Alcide mostly naked in her bed, encouraged by Claude, and kicks everyone the hell out.
Mr. Cataliades comes by for a brief visit.
Eric and Sookie’s love for each other may not be enough to keep them together and well.
We meet an elf.
A lot of people die.

definitely a filler book. just moved story line forward a bit. it was fun as usual, but a bit slow and felt very short. the next book should be good based on where the "cliffhanger" left us.
This Charlaine Harris series is my guilty pleasure, the dirty secret I try not to read in public. I don't think they are particularly great, but sometimes when life is tough you just need brain candy, and this is where I turn.
Ironically, I read the next book in the series before this one because I simply didn't realize I had skipped it. Her writing style is such that each book spends half the time explaining what happened before, and it had been a while since I put this series down, so I hardly even noticed. It was only when checking my Goodreads I realized I hadn't posted a review. Thanks, Goodreads!
This is the 3rd to last in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Vampire, werewolves, fairies, violence, sex, it has all the trappings of all the rest of them. The writing is chopping, the relationships are terrible, but it's a fun romp. I considered skipping it since I already knew the plot points by accidentally reading ahead, but I am waaaay too anal for that. I can now sleep easy as I wait to read the final of the series at another time I need an easy read during a rough patch.

To steal a line from Sookie Stackhouse, I'd say there were "too many fish in the kettle" in Dead Reckoning.
This book started out disappointing, seemed downright awful at times, picked up at the very end only to end on a disapointing note.
There were places in the dialogue where the vernacular just seemed corny. I don't exactly doubt it, but menfolk? Kinfolk? Really? Half of my family is from the south (Mississippi to be exact) and I've NEVER heard them utter these words. And I seriously hope Charlaine Harris is getting royalties from Wal-Mart because I'm sick of the constant price checks and (while I'm complaining) of all of the time in the books dealing with Sookie's grooming - shaving her legs in particular. Most of all, I'm tired of all of the loose ends at the end of every book - some of which aren't addressed at all in the following book (or ever again).
**SPOILER ALERT**
One bright thing from this book is that Debbie Pelt is FINALLY taken care of. Or at least, I think she was. (Thank gaaaahhh!)
If this series was a boat, this book is an indication that it's sinking, fast. Pull it together!

This book was a welcome relief from some of the stuff that went on in the book before. There were plenty of plot threads, some smaller resolutions regarding questions that have been around for a while, some new bits of information popping up, and a progression of Sookie and Eric's relationship that felt fairly natural. Bill was around (I still like Bill, darn it), and there was plenty of Sam.
It felt like a quiet book compared to some of the others, even though there were big fight scenes and firebombings and the like - but I needed a quiet one. (And also, thankfully, Sookie actually has a book where she comes out physically unscathed. Finally.)

Left-field out of character moves with my fave characters to move along a ragged plot, and rest was a bit dull. Not interested in these current fairy characters. TW: SA talk, including with minors, and apologism.
Another another Sookie book bites the dust (no pun intended). I think I'm more of a 3.5 stars than a 4, but I'll bump it up. Not a whole lot to say. The story was interesting and all the books always seem to have a vampire problem and a personal problem so it tracks that same pattern. I'm glad a certain someone has bit the dust at the end of the book, but I'm a little concerned about the Eric/Sookie relationship. The way the end of the book left it, it almost felt like Harris MIGHT switch us up and I don't like that. I spent HOW many books getting into Eric and then the Eric-Sookie relationship? I am thoroughly attached to the relationship and if she changes it...I won't be happy...But I suppose we'll have to wait and see. I did enjoy the amount of time we saw of Ameila, Bob, and Bubba. The new fae information was also interesting and I'm glad we're starting to delve into that part of Sookie (about time!). The book left enough things open at the end that you want to read the next book and it's not a horrible book so I suspect I will be excited when the next one comes out too. I have to admit I'm a little apathetic about the book and I think that might be the ending, but I can't tell for sure. Perhaps it'll grow on me more over time.
