This is the third book in this series and they keep getting better. This storyline was a little more intense than the previous ones. I would say they moved a little bit away from the Stephanie Plum type of story (although the characters are still funny) and towars the Alex Cross (James Patterson) type of murder. Which is great since I'm a hugh Alex Cross fan. Although I have to say, I like the levity the authors provide in the Monkeewrench stories. Nice relief for the intensity of the murders.

This book is a bit different from the previous ones in the series, in that it is not a police procedural in the same way that the other are. That said, I did like this book a lot, and I think that it is a pretty solid installment in a series that I have come to really enjoy.

Dead Run takes place pretty much over the course of twenty four hours, and we get to follow Grace, Annie and Sharon as they flee through the Wisconsin woods, as well as the men back home as they slowly come to realize that something is wrong and scramble to find their friends before it’s too late.

I did enjoy that aspect of the book a lot. I liked reading from both perspectives: the women trying to survive out in the middle of nowhere and the men’s gnawing feeling of something being wrong and growing anxiety as they realize that their friends are actually in danger but have no idea why or where they are. Not to mention, of course, the big mystery: what did happen in Four Corners? Super interesting plot, overall, and while I do like your more typical police procedural, it was kind of refreshing to get to read a different kind of crime novel for once.

As far as the characters go, I still like them a lot. The Monkweewrenchers are still great, even split up as they were in this installment, and I still like Magozzi and Gino a lot, too. It was all hands on deck in this novel, as Sheriff Mike Halloran and deputies Bonar Carlson and Sharon Mueller are back after not having shown up at all in the second book in the series, which made me really happy. I think they are great characters, they add a lot to the story, and as enjoyable as the previous novel was, I really missed them.

The writing was enjoyable, as always. These authors know how spin an interesting story, the pacing is great, and they build up tension really well. I also enjoy how they are able to tell the story from multiple perspectives – not just one or two - without it becoming muddled, which is something that I think a lot of authors do without necessarily knowing how to do it well.

Thanks to The Langoliers, stumbling on a place where no one exists is pretty much one of my worst fears. I loved the extreme creepiness of this one and the whole series thus far. I think Annie is pretty much my favorite fictional character to date. Highly recommend to fans of mysteries and thrillers.

I'm not really a fan of suspenseful books, so it took me a long time to read this. It really is a wonderful read, it was just that I could only read a few pages at a time! Great characters, great resolution.

While low on the plausibilty factor this was a grand page turner that takes the woman of the Monkeewrench gang out to the wilds of Wisconsin where they stumble onto a town that is eerily deserted except for all the soldiers pointing m-16s at them.

This instalment of the Monkeewrench series was a real page turner and had my heart racing at times! The Monkeewrench gang were right in the thick of things which I think made it slightly better than book 2. My only complaint would be that there weren't as many one liners from Gino.

Good extension of the series. Not as funny as the previous book and sometimes the plot tends a little too strongly toward the improbable but a fun read none the less.
