This is my first dark academia and I loved it! I loved how the magic work, I loved the history of all the houses, and I loved all the twista and plots!

Unfortunately, this was a DNF.
AND I NEVER DNF BOOKS, but this was literally putting me to sleep. I made it about 30% before I decided to shelve.

I LOVE Leigh! She has a way of making these magical worlds come to life and connect with the characters within them, but...this? This was SO BORING. I like Darlington, but honestly, felt no connection to any of the characters because I was so lost in all the narration describing the history of the houses, the layout of Yale, and the outfits Alex was wearing. Lol

So. Much. Narration. I was just bored to death and it broke my heart because I had such high hopes for this.

If you’ve ever wondered, “What would it be like if the secret societies at Yale did terrible ghost magic?” then this is the book for you! Our protagonists get front-row seats to these rituals as guards to keep unwantes ghosts out… except it doesn’t always go as planned. I enjoyed the multiple-viewpoint and multiple-timeline setup for this novel, and I found Bardugo’s writing just as gripping in this setting as in her “Six of Crows” duology. I actually got so caught up that when I had to stop reading to do chores, I rented the audiobook so I could keep the story going. Overall, I had fun with this one, and if something like “How to Get Away With Murder” meets “Gideon the Ninth” sounds fun to you, maybe give “Ninth House” a try!

After the Six Of Crows I didn't think Leigh could get any more create. In this book she created a portal into another world that sucked you in at a moments notice. I love Alex and how she actually acts like a human compared to most books. Also the twists were amazing too, sometimes the monsters lay in any person and it's great to see that finally shown.

Just read it, it will make your day!

Really a 4.75. Would give it a 5 if the beginning wasn’t so hard to get through. But WOW did it get gooooood!
