Enjoyed this much more than the earlier one in the series, and this had wonderful twists that I didn’t see coming but were well foreshadowed.
Will read more of this author, this was great to read while mending

Grade really a 2.5 star, but Good Reads refuses to let me do half stars, sooo....

I used to read all SEP's books and I don't know that I ever I liked them, it's more that they are quick reads with lots of plot and they move. The heroes are all mega alpha jerks. I have not read her last two books because the one with the lady and the puppets bothered me so much.

I am going through a depressive period due to being forced back into an office environment so I got this from the library and pretty much read it in one night of insomnia. While I appreciate that the hero wasn't an alpha jerk and there was no hate sex, both leads were more personality tics than humans. The weird suspense mystery plot was ridiculous and I couldn't wait for it to be resolved.

BUT. I love opera. And I have actually been in a production of Aida, which figures prominently in the book (heroine is playing Amneris). And I really liked a heroine as an opera singer. SEP has done some research, not super deep but enough to appeal to someone like me. It was a fun, great milieu and I enjoyed it.

Both h/h are supposedly "older" but I don't consider 36/37 years old OLDER. HOWEVER, they both seemed to act older than their biological age, which let's be frank, is older millennial. That struck me as a bit off-balance.

I thought I had a lot more to say but I guess I don't. Book read quickly but was empty calories, like an order of onion rings.

I mostly liked this story, but Olivia’s whiplash mood/behavior changes bothered me. She believes one thing until a single conversation then does a 180. This happened at least three times. The back and forth at the end just fell flat for me.
