This Phillips has a little more oomph to it than some of hers/than some romance novels as she's dug into opera/fame/gender relations as well as the basic "will they/won't they" issue. It is not great writing or a great novel, but it's a pleasant summer read that actually held my interest throughout.
The ending was a bit over the top, and I'm not a fan of the whole "I realized I love you when I thought you'd been killed" thing.
Also (and this is so small, but...) Taylor Swift's eyes are blue, not green.

So much fun! I have to read more of her books. Well done and so enjoyable.
Classic SEP: exactly what I signed up for is what she delivered and sometimes that is all you need. Loved the opera angle and the kinda goofy mysteries and the fun travel locations.

I have never read/listened to this author before and not sure I will again. I listened to the audio (1.5x) and the female narrator made the fmc sound like a 50 yr old woman. It was hard to reconcile that voice to a supposed 35 yr old. It was a single narrator doing 3rd pov and without the labeling of chapters and switching of pov it was often hard to figure out whose pov you were listening to. Overall the narration definitely didn’t help my overall feelings on the book.
Onto the story, there was so much that happened and it was so all over the place. From stalkers to a stand off-ish fmc to a jerk at times mmc to getting held at gunpoint and falling into a river and holding their breath for 4 min to a promotion tour for watches to stolen Egyptian bracelets. I just don’t even know what I just read. Maybe the quirky, random nature is what the author is known for but it all seemed like too much was getting jammed into one book.
I didn’t feel emotionally connected to the characters. And honestly when the mmc was avoiding the fmc and sending her on a scavenger hunt through all his life connections to try to have convo with him and then suddenly she’s saying yes to getting married, that was the last straw for me.

While there may have been one too many plot twists, the classic Susan Elizabeth Phillips, characters still managed to charm.
