The main character is a shallow bozo but the twists were solid. One thing I consistently like about Frieda McFadden is that she doesn’t moralize over right and wrong. She has no problem killing off problematic characters and that remains fun to read.

i feel like mcfadden sometimes follows a formula in writing her books and for me, this one broke free of it. i started this once in november of 2024, got 30ish pages in and put it down because it was dragging. SO glad i put it down instead of forcing myself through it because i really enjoyed it! wrong time, right book kinda thing.
