I’m so frustrated it took me this long to discover McFadden’s work!

In The Boyfriend, we follow Sydney, who has been struggling with online dating but finally meets someone who seems perfect. However, as murders begin to unfold around the city, she starts questioning everything.

Initially, it took me a little while to get into the story, but after a few chapters, I was completely hooked. The unsolved murders, dual timeline, and suspense were executed brilliantly. I kept thinking I had figured out the twist, only for another one to surprise me. My only issue was the main character's shocking disregard for her own safety, though it does shed light on the dangers of online dating.

Victoria Connolly and Adam Blanford did an incredible job with their narration, and they’re a big reason why I kept listening. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more of their work!

I highly recommend this book, especially the audiobook, to anyone looking for a story that keeps you guessing until the very end.

I should have known with a name like Daisy that she couldn’t be trusted. Add the name Tom to the mix and it is essentially a darker, modern time version of Great Gatsby without all the riches. Still, I didn’t see it coming!

I really couldn’t put it down

Main female character was not an enjoyable read, her poor decisions were a frustrating constant irritant.  Her constant talk on body image did not allow for an escape from the real world type of epic read.

The POV from Tom made the book enjoyable and built the story.  It did not make any sense why he fell for Sydney.  The main plot twist saved the book.

Personal annoyance - talking of Sydney and Cindy on audio was very confusing.

High rating because I couldn't guess the ending and I ALWAYS guess the ending. I love being wrong.

Deduction comes from the RED FLAGS SHE MISSED. Homegirl. Come on. The reluctance to meet the friends at the beginning would have me running. But nooooo....Gullible Girly here finds a whole ass burner phone and item from her dead friend and only then sees red.
