This is the first Freida McFadden book I have read and I wondered what all the hype was about. It was very slow in getting going. Some chapters felt like nothing happened at all and a bit repetitive. With the timeline going from the past to the present I thought it would be more fast paced. It was a good twist but I can see how she manages to write so many books so quickly.

A good one to listen to on audiobook while you are doing other things as it's not complex.

Oh, and for some reason people's height was mentioned and described a lot. I thought there would be a reason for it but there was no explanation.

I enjoyed reading this, I won't lie. But it was also so frustrating. I mean, when almost every single chapter ends with your main character questioning whether or not she has just made a stupid decision, she's probably made some stupid decision. I also thought most of the characters were frustratingly two dimensional. While they had personality, there wasn't really any development, and the only character I really liked was Jake. And even he acted out of character just because our main character Sydney pouted and asked him to. That being said though, I read this in less than two days and was completely engrossed in the story. I didn't see the plot twist coming, so that was pretty well done. I just didn't love the way it was written.

One of the things I love most about reading thrillers is the thrill of guessing what will happen next—the suspense of the plot twist. The Boyfriend completely satisfied this craving, as I had no idea what was coming. I kept guessing and second-guessing, only to find out I was wrong every time. That unpredictability is what I love most about thrillers—the way they keep readers on edge, never knowing when or how events will unfold.

I give this book a perfect 5 stars because it hooked me so thoroughly that I finished it in a single day. While the ending might not be satisfying for everyone, I appreciated how it left room for interpretation, giving the reader something to ponder. Having already gotten used to McFadden’s writing style, with its chapters jumping between the present and the past, I found it easy to follow and thoroughly enjoyable.

So good!! It was so easy to follow and the twist is excellent! I did not expect it, and I usually have a good idea who the big bad usually is. Was highly impressed!
Sydney can be dumb at times, but she acknowledges it. Ha! She even says she is ignoring red flags.
