Actually is less than a four. Rounding up. It was good, but I think I love the Will Tent series so much that I can’t help but compare this book to those. Will say book kept getting as it progressed. Hoping this one gets spun off into its own series.

I really struggled with the first half of this book. I put it down for a couple of weeks then I picked it back up and raced through to the end. Really great ending and glad I read this book.

True to its time period, just about every slur possible is said in this book. It’s not really my place to comment on the use of slurs to make a time accurate book but was extremely aware that this is written by a white woman from Georgia who I do not believe to be Jewish. Another thing that gave me pause and took me out of the story is the fact that every man is enamored with Kate, even the gay ones. And even when her uniform is three times too big and couldn’t possibly show her boobs off
Fox/Bixby even holds off on killing her because he wants to have sex with her too badly

I almost thought that Rick would be the shooter based on how much attention he got and that he was also a vet but was the “safest guy”. I didn’t mind it just being one of the assholes who stuck around Terry though.

I normally adore Slaughter’s books but found this one lacking.

🇬🇧: it was good book, and I have tead it pretty quickly. But I had higher hopes for a Karin Slaughter book..  the books itself didn't really suprise me, except for the end. But it is a great book, except for the fact that was honing for a bit more trilling content.

This was a good read, however it is not for the faint of heart!

Cop town is set in Atlanta, Georgia 1974 during a time of social and political turbulence. There is a cop killer on the loose during a time when massive change is happening within the Atlanta police department and the world.

Karin slaughter does a very good job of describing what it was like to be anything other than a white male cop in the Atlanta police force in the 70s. It describes in graphic detail how the old guard was; racist, homophobic, antisemitic, misogynistic, and the list goes on. I found it very interesting to be completely submerged into that era.

But because it's keeping it historically accurate, the vocabulary is very graphic. And the scenes are sometimes difficult to read, as it's crazy to imagine how that could have ever been the norm.

It mostly focuses on two women in the police force, a more seasoned female officer who's family are all white cops, and then a newbie, who's from a more affluent family and is more open to new ideas but doesn't have the same life skills as the rest of the force. And together they are working against the old guard to solve the case.

Learning about this era from the eyes of the two women who are very different was a cool way to read the book.

Its not the best book I've ever read by her. the language has a purpose, but sometimes I felt it was a bit overpowering and it took away from the storyline. I also didn't connect to the characters emotionally as much as I had hoped I would! Despite those, it kept me entertained, the storyline was great and I generally enjoyed the read!
