One of the better books in the series. You can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel for these kids.

An interesting addition to the Gone Series. The plot line seemed to be a detour from the overarching goals set by the characters, and was focused more on the relationships between individuals and the development of a stable society. Very easy to read, however, is lacking in the more detailed aspects of its counterparts.
I liked this book, but I just wonder why authors insist on writing so many novels for a story line that i think could have been perfectly wrapped up in four or just three novels. Grant has not disappointed me yet with this series and I can't wait to read Fear and see what happens next in the FAYZ.

"I'm going to go way out on a limb here and say I don't think something that calls itself a "world eater" is a good thing."
After days of a book slump as I couldn't face going back into the stressful and tiring atmosphere this series gave off for me, I sat and read this book almost in one sitting. I still don't know if it was just sudden motivation, or a genuine like for this book in particular...
I did really like a lot more characters in this one. The expansion of Sanjit and Virtue as members of the community was the comfort I was craving in such a dark series. Watching the characters come together to survive and fight evil always gets me, and this book stuck out for me for its friendships attempting to help and survive the simplest problems. The development of the romances and friendships was also what I've been looking for. I enjoyed watching the characters grow up a little more - they're still young and this series has only taken part over a year, but it's really interesting to watch the characters start to prepare for the future, and watch the conflict of opinions determining the future of generations and the community. I'm excited to continue reading the next book because obviously someone has to lose, we just don't know who yet...
Shoutout to Michael Grant for the diversity he has created in this series. Every chapter there are countless characters of all different colours, cultures, religions, and sexualities. There are interesting and detailed descriptions of culture given in context and in character, rather than just being added as a tickbox. This diversity really adds to the whole series having a real sense of reality.
I want to mention as well that I am not a religious person. But this book had me questioning beliefs I wasn't even sure I had. The religious aspects with of course the 'Gaiaphage vs God vs nothing', but also 'good vs evil' were really interesting to read about. I'm just as confused on what I believe or agree with now in the real world haha.
This one is gory and disgusting (and I'm sure it's only going to get worse from here). Hated the description of "chunks of raw chicken" being used whenever someone coughed, EWWW. I always find plague interesting and horrific got read about, and this book was definitely both. As usual I just spent the whole time reading, feeling sorry for the characters and being grateful I wasn't a part of their world.
Of course there's still lot's of POVs but I think I'm starting to get the point now. yes I was confused for most of the story, but I think I enjoyed having an insight into the thoughts and feelings of even the smallest characters. It shows that everyone has an impact and the butterfly effect is huge in this series. I like seeing how everything connects and how this is a scary story for every single person in Perdido Beach. Look, I did spend a lot of the time confused, but that's normal for me so I'm sticking to a four star rating for this one. Again, I'm not sure If I was just glad I didn't have to sit through days of stress and anxiety and could get the whole story done in a couple hours, or if I genially liked particular points of Plague. But either way, four stars for fantastic descriptions, great characters, and a very clever story.
