Pacing around in circles he sang under his breath, voy a Ilenarte toda, toda, the first crap that came into his head, lentamente y poco a poco, over and over so he didn't have to think about the rustles coming from the house, con mis besos, or the ghostly eyes he felt sure were spying on him

Enjoyed reading something as dark as Hurricane Season. Felt the characters harder to connect to as it was much shorter, but also the fast pace necessary for the story and it’s spiralling out of control

gross but good. all i could think about while reading this was how toxic the main character was and also how bad i felt for him and his life. a quick read that explores masculinity, race and class divisions, poverty, desperation, and cycles of trauma. the author’s writing style is fascinating to me, like stream of consciousness but better because it’s not exactly that.

This is really a 3.5 book, it’s not perfect but it’s so drenched in emotive energy that it works to conceal anything you may find fault in, the subtle addition of Latin Folklore really seals this up as almost Neo-Horror, Neo-Psychological-Horror .
