I enjoyed listening to this book. Definitely a lot of triggers throughout the book, so beware of that. Paris overcame a lot to be where she is and maybe she can finally find peace. It sucks that there are kids who really go through trauma like this and have to do what they can to survive. Some of them don’t make it. This story had great character development, details were drawn out like a drama series, and I love that there was a small dose of love entered into the equation. No smut though lol, but I’m a sucker for potential romance. I was also shocked by the conclusion of Jimmy’s death. I was waiting for that confirmation since the beginning of the book.

Maybe I’m not a thriller girly. Or, maybe I’m not reading the right type of thrillers.

This was an audio read and I travelled a lot this week so I had a nice chunk of time to dedicate to the beginning of the book - which was a big saving grace.

It DID suck me in from the beginning. The story was compelling and although I expected to hate Paris, I actually liked her character. Didn’t really like a single other character though - well, except maybe the owner of strip/night club.

However, at around the 30% mark I had already pieced together the main twist. With still having a massive chunk of the book left, I was physically pushing myself to continue.

I don’t know if the twist was supposed to be so obvious that early on but I wished it could have been presented differently and at a much later point in the book.

The only thing I didn’t quite guess was what actually happened to Jimmy Peralta. I won’t spoil it but I had a very confidence assumption and was definitely wrong. 🤷🏻‍♀️

A few plot holes or unconvincing things happen which irked me. Again, I can’t elaborate without spoiling the story but I don’t think certain things could have stayed hidden as long in real life.

Anyways, definitely not a bad read and I would likely recommend it to a friend. But, I hope everyone else who reads it can stay in the dark a bit longer than I did!

This book really wasn’t for me. I’ll be honest the first part was incredibly enjoyable but then it felt like it deviated a bit from the main plot and focused more on Paris past life. Which is fine but not what I envisioned the book was going to be. I though it would have been more of a mystery, crime thriller. But in reality felt like the opposite. The book itself was fine, it had some really good moments but in general was just lacking any sense of surprise or drive. I felt like giving up multiple times but just pushed through. The "plot twists” were incredibly obvious and boring. I’d already guessed them all by the 3rd part of the book.
