I love Gail Carriger. I read everything she writes. This series is raunchier than her Parasol Protectorate but you get Werewolves discussing Jane Austen. Marvin 🧜🏼‍♂️ and Alex 🐺 are such a great couple: "Marvin always brushed off any and all werewolf fuss as being beyond his merman ken and not really worth worrying over."

Lovely story of Found Family.
And then there is Max.  Snarkiness at its Best! "No, I’m a f🤬ing rockstar with a sparkle addiction."

*Now that Ms Gail has announced Book 4 - The Dratsie Dilemma: The San Andreas Shifters is coming December 1st, 2024. I'm rereading the series.

This time we follow Tank, the solid and reliable gentle giant of the pack members, and Isaac, a popular bartender with the unique ability to help everyone talk out their problems. They seem like an unlikely pairing from the outside, but they really do fit and compliment each other quite nicely. They were so compatible in fact that I found the romantic storyline a tad boring. I like the other parts of the story like the pack's reaction to Isaac, how he helped people at the bar, even the outside pack invading. Basically anything involving just Isaac or the pack as a whole. I still liked the novel as a whole, but the romance portion wasn't as strong as it was in book 1. I am just going to put this one behind me so I can get really excited about the next installment which will feature Judd and Colin.

3.5 stars. I really liked this one although I thought the whole mystery of what Isaac was went on for too long. Nice to see the characters from previous books again and nice that they didn't overwhelm the main characters in this book.

4.5 So very good. This may be my favorite Carriger verse. The writing is sharp and clever, the cast of characters diverse and appealing. The developing relationship between Isaac and Tank is alternately sweet and hot as hell. The D/s element, Tank’s need to submit and Isaac’s domination are beautifully explored and so very integral to the story, it never seemed superfluous or just added to titilate. Highly recommended

Very unique take on pack and Omegas. So fun! I connected less to Tank’s transformation because his self worth was so connected to Isaac. But this book was very enjoyable

If I sound harsh, it's because I take my queer werewolves fiction very seriously.

Loved the premise, disliked the execution. It didn't help that I'm severely repulsed by any kind of unequal dynamics so I can't stand D/s & skipped a lot. Usually I just skip sex but here I had to skip a lot.
I'm not really sure I liked the world developpment. Was a bit original, but not very much so & you'd expect this kind of work to either establish something that is very easily to distinguish or something that follow the conventions of the genre & this book did a little bit of both which I found underwehlming.
