trigger warnings in the THIRD paragraph, I don’t want it to come across as spoilers, but want to put it out there for anyone who might need the warning ... wow - I wasn’t really hooked in the beginning, but halfway thru the book I couldn’t wait to finish and get answers to all of the wild things! a couple chapters before the end (pages before the big reveal) it clicked and I totally figured out a HUGE bit to the story. I still can’t believe that’s what happened lol

pay close attention to the first chapter - I had thumbed thru just curious about how the book started, as I started it a few weeks ago, and WOW it’s explained completely.

I do wish there was trigger warnings on books, or similar, so for tw: suicide/murder, mentions sexual abuse (but no details on abuse), and religion

I loved this book! There’s something about a small town mystery that keeps me captivated! You just don’t know who to trust whenever you meet someone.

I loved how each chapter left off with a slight cliffhanger to make you want to keep on reading, it really drew me in.

I honestly thought Wrigley was this innocent character made out to be a red herring but how wrong was I??? I do wish something more happened with Jacob’s character as there was a build up for not much pay off.

Loved the voice in this. Good story. I had some trouble keeping minor characters distinct from one another, so when revelations came out about their parts in Bad Stuff later on, it didn't have as much impact as it could have.

But I don't even care. I had a good time listening to this one. So effortless, and not a wasted word.

Some very, very sad and disturbing parts. It's not exploited, but it's still upsetting.

Secrets came out pretty quickly in a chunk at the end. But I guess that's the difficulty in writing books with secrets. Leave too many clues for readers to get interested in, and they'll figure things out early on. On the bright side, I do feel like if I had been using my noggin more, I might have figured more out, so the author did do a good job of it.

I liked this so much I am instantly seeking more of Tudor's work to read.

Took a while to get there but ended up scaring the sh*t out of me. Was lured in by a

priest.

Giving this book to a friend because I'm a scaredy cat and will not be revisiting, despite a good twist ending.

4.5 stars- rounded up.

This was my first C.J Tudor and it won't be my last. It had a creepy, dark feeling throughout the whole book. We follow a Vicar and her daughter as they are placed in a new town and church. This was my first read that had a dark religious tone to it and I really enjoyed it. The only thing stopping it from being a 5 star review is that I figured out most of the twists relatively quickly- minus 1 big one. That said, the fact that there were so many twists and the overall sense of unease made this one of my favourite reads in recent memory.

Can't wait to check out more by this author!!
